Thailand: 5-day Training on Monitoring and Evaluation of Development Programmes (MEDP)

This MEDP training course provides an overview of monitoring and evaluation methods with opportunities of practical application of the instruments that are introduced during the course. It will give participants the M&E tools, techniques and resources needed for planning, organizing, and/or managing programmes and projects. Through exercises and group work, participants will learn about the links between results-based management, performance measurement, and monitoring & programme evaluation. Time will be allotted for practical exercises and informal question and answer sessions around common M&E problem areas. Resources for further study and research in the M&E field will be provided.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to plan and conduct an evaluation and for monitoring, relevant steps will be discussed within the above framework so that at the end of the course, participants will be able to think out a monitoring plan and develop a Monitoring Tracking Tool.

This course is designed for representatives from government, project teams, NGOs, UN Agency staff, M&E specialists, technical specialists, and researchers.

  • Definitions of basic M&E terminology
  • Understanding the M&E framework
  • Understanding the programme logic
  • Developing (monitoring and) evaluation questions
  • Selecting the evaluation design (based on the type of question – descriptive, normative or cause and effect) to answer the evaluation questions. Setting indicators and measures for each evaluation question.
  • Selecting data sources and data collection methods
  • Sampling methods
  • Data analysis
  • Putting it all together (developing the evaluation design matrix)
  • Reporting the results

Requirements

  • If you have a laptop computer, please bring it to the course to work on your group projects.
  • If you have your own projects that you wish to evaluate, please bring them as case work.**Facilitators**

Our MEDP Facilitators come from our wide network of experts and professionals who have solid international development experiences from Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America. All of them have worked with either Government, UN agencies, Development Banks, NGOs or combination of all agencies in various capacities, including management of country programmes.

VISA Issues

  • For citizens of countries that need to apply for Thai visa in another country, please note that the visa processing may take 1 - 2 weeks here in Bangkok. We suggest that you send your application at least 2 months in advance to ensure on-time release of visa.

ACCOMMODATION

  • ADCC will block-booked rooms for confirmed participants in the university hotel on-campus. The hotel rate is published in our hotel website and will be paid by the participant. In case there are no more rooms available, ADCC will help book rooms in selected hotels outside the university campus.
